Meethe Mein Kya Hai

Families have their  unique dynamics.  They are loyal to one another, but each member has a slightly different history and can get touchy about differences.

In "Meethe Mein Kya Hai" (2026) the first focus is on Jai.  He has been widowed for two years (after a car accident where he was a passenger).  He is very much still grieving and thinking about leaving India and definitely does not want to attend a Diwali gathering hosted by his grandmother.  But a sister Sana begs him to attend to soften the news of her marriage she will be announcing.

Diwali is a five day multi faith celebration symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. originating in India.  Enjoyed around the world and is perhaps known best for lights in different forms--candles and fireworks.  A good time for families to get together.

Jai encounters, almost right away efforts for him to meet eligible women.  Jai is exasperated.  Another approach was to have another widower as a guest.  At first this was offensive, but it turned out the other fellow resented the same efforts against him and they both laughed about it.

The big surprise from his sister Sana was that she had married, a few months previously without telling her parents.  Karam was easily identified as a Sikh (not absolutely forbidden, but not preferred).  Then in quick succession the family was told that he was divorced and that he had a daughter which he had brought with him.  He made an effort and over time both he and his daughter won the family over.

The story did contain love, but not romance.  Two of his brother in laws publicly praised their wives and gave them personally special gifts.  A 13 year old niece, Meera was surprisingly informative.  She confessed she did not always actually listen to music with her headphones on to allow her to eaves drop on gossip.  Jai felt comfortable talking to her and was very gentle when she confessed she had a crush on him.

The point of the movie was how the family enjoying Diwali made Jai feel better.  Sounds simple, but the process is engaging.

Cast and crew were instrumental in the good feelings (without romance) the viewer will enjoy.

Two people were key to handling the delicate story of a grieving widower finally casting away his empty feelings.  Radhika Bansal was both writer and director and surely had had difficulty securing the money and experienced support for the script as she had no film credits.  The producer Ajit Mohan also had no listed film credits and somehow was entrusted with putting together some seasoned cast and crew.  Fresh blood is very helpful in this case.

Amit Trivedi was the composer.  He had done commercial jingles and been involved with putting together music albums.  Amit has 112 composing credits and 59 for the music department including "Dev D." (2009), "Udann" (2010), "English Vinglish" (2012), "Queen" (2013), "Padman" (2018), "Doctor G" (2022) and "Homebound" (2025).  See http://www.therealjohndavidson.com/2022/12/doctor-g.html

Piyush Puty was the cinematographer.  He has 36 cinematography credits, 2 for the camera & electrical department and 2 for additional crew including "Har Kisse Ke Hisse:  Kaamyaab" (2018) and "Sharmaji Namkeen" (2022).

Neha Mehra was the editor with 6 editor credits and 1 for the editorial department including "1000 Rupee Note" (2014).

Panchemi Ghavri was the casting director.  She has 32 casting credits, 3 for the casting department and 1 for acting including "Wake Up Sid" (2009) and "Kapoor & Sons" (2016).

Ritwik Bhowmik played Jai.  He has 23 acting credits.

Abhay Kaul played Richard.  He has 6 acting credits including "Hello Bachhon" (2026).  See   http://www.therealjohndavidson.com/2026/03/hello-bachhon.html

Tarana Raja played Pretti, another of Jai's sisters.  She was a very popular radio hostess and television anchor.  Tarana was also a dance trainer and participated in the English language theatre in India.  Tarana has 22 acting credits including "Laaga Chunari Mein Daag" (2007), "Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic" (2008) and "Karthik Calling Karthik" (2010).

Vikram Bakshi played Karam, the new Sikh bridegroom.  He is also involved with stunts.  Vikram has 3 acting credits.
